Day 3 - Who Knows Where the Plastic Cutlery Goes
Welcome to Day 3 of the badly titled Everyone Has Got one Good Song blog thing.
Building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One
artist. One song. Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is
that day and then nine other songs by nine different artists just because
people like things to be in tens.
If you want to share this on Twitter you could use the
hashtag #EHGOGS
Today’s selection.
Our featured birthday artist is Sandy Denny from Fairport
Convention. It might just be the best song ever written. And to think I used to
take the piss out of Andy the Rag Officer at Uni for his Fairport t-shirt.
Andy, I was wrong. Also you paid me too much for that disco in 1992 but I
needed the cash so whatever.
This is the song I want played at my funeral. That and Heaven
by Talking Heads.
So, the idea was that you might want to follow and share and
either have the playlist yourself or do your own or chat about it with me, you
could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.
The other songs today….
Daddy’s Little Girl – Warfield Spillers. Lord knows where I
heard this. It’s unusual and that’s all I want sometimes from a song.
The Devil Went Down to Georgia – Charlie Daniels band. This
is a proper pub jukebox song. You really feel like you’ve just been
transporting moonshine from old Pappy Llewellyn’s stall up in the mountains,
even though in reality you’ve just been beaten at pool in a Carmarthen pub by a
heroin addict.
I Gotta Feelin – Eagles of Death Metal. FILTH. ACTUAL FILTH.
Daydream in Blue – I Monster. Massive gear change. Back to
the summer of 2001. The Twin Towers are still up. We mostly still quite like
the government…
Future (vocal) – Model 500 – a bit of absolute proto techno
to clear the cobwebs. Always liked the name Juan Atkins. It doesn’t quite go. A
bit like Brian Fernandez or Diego Hopkins.
Dance to the Music – Sly and the Family Stone. I once turned
off a mate’s absolutely unlistenable glitch and noise DJ set to stick this on. Sorry
Steve. It was a Friday night mind…
Human Performance – Parquet Courts. This song comforted me
before a break up! It’s like I knew it was coming, the song knew it was coming
and within a year….
I Love Her Still, I Always Will – Outsiders. I knew I’d love
this song just from the title.
Stand By Your Manatee – Future of the Left. There aren’t
enough songs that reference plastic cutlery and even fewer I would imagine that
do that without being fucking twee.
Tomorrow, we have ten more….
