Aretha Madness

Welcome to the latest instalment of the badly titled Everyone Has Got one Good Song blog thing. Day 82!

I was thinking of building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One artist. One song. Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is that day and then nine other songs by nine different artists just because people like things to be in tens.

The playlist is here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4exU9MUJMWaouOgnu7zmSl?si=I5fqk7VpQX6aDGec7xvqsQ&pi=e-IfIWXc5GT56R

So, the idea was that you might want to follow and share and either have the playlist yourself or do your own or chat about it with me, you could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.

I’m on Twitter X thing as @fourfoot

I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER – Aretha Franklin. Went on a date to the cinema to see Amazing Grace when it came out and the moment Aretha first began to sing tears started to fall down my cheek. Suitably unmanned, there was no second date. But hey that’s their loss. Aretha is the best.

HOLY MAN (Taylor Hawkins version) – Dennis Wilson Much loved drummer breathes life into another much loved drummer’s lost work before becoming much loved posthumously too.

I’M A MAN – Spencer Davis Group I always feel this should be playing in the background of a car chase scene of some sexy bank heist type thriller. Out of Sight kinda level, you know. My mum saw the Spencer Davis Group in a pub when she was about 13. Like you do.

DEMONS – Joana Serrat. A bit of Americana from Catalonia, you say? Why not? Bit of battered heart bruised guitar slightly shoegazed end of the night melancholy it is then…

GROOVIN WITH MR BLOE – Mr Bloe An absolute unit of a tune and no mistake.

MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF SOUND - Mexico You should know how it sounds already, to be honest, with that band name and song title. Mariachi horns, big beat arrangements and some laid back rapping in Spanish.

I’M LETTING IN THE SUNSHINE – Piney Gir This will either drive you up the wall or you’ll be a slave to it’s earworm qualities for life.

MASS DESTRUCTION - Faithless Yeah, yeah, Insomnia was great etc but I’ve always preferred this tune of Maxi and the gangs output.

SAIL OF THE SILVER MORNING – Cotton Jones Like early Tindersticks shot through a filter of slightly woozy Americana. The sound of a jukebox being switched on in a David Lynch movie.

SPACE CARNIVAL – The Comet Is Coming. Apocalyptic electronic jazz madness.

As ever, your love is taken as read. Thanks for putting up with this shite. Tomorrow, normal service is resumed. Your disappointment is taken as read, also. It’s that Jason Lytle’s birthday tomorrow….
