Me and Mr Jones
I was thinking
of building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One artist. One song.
Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is that day and then
nine other songs by nine different artists just because people like things to
be in tens.
The playlist
is here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4exU9MUJMWaouOgnu7zmSl?si=I5fqk7VpQX6aDGec7xvqsQ&pi=e-IfIWXc5GT56R
So, the idea was that you might want to follow and share and either have the playlist yourself or do your own or chat about it with me, you could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.
I’m on Twitter X
thing as @fourfoot
OH, HAPPY DAY –
Quincy Jones. Today’s birthday boy. The bloke’s worked with everyone from
Frank Sinatra to the Frank and Walters. Ok, he never worked with them but he has
worked with New Order and Michael Jackson and everyone in between. Anyway, I
put this on as his back catalogue is too huge and this is a nice version.
WHAM RAP – Wham!
That Wham documentary is a lovely thing and a valuable reminder that, from
the very start, old George knew his way round a tune.
DAKOTA – Stereophonics.
How I hate this band. Awful, godawful fucking pub rock bollocks. And then
they produced this and you go “well, this is surprising”.
CIRCA 1762 - Pavement
The American band I’ve seen the most. Moment I heard them I knew I was in
it for life and even though their albums were of diminishing quality after
Slanted, I still loved them. Could have gone for any number of their early
belters but have opted for this Peel session belter from 1992.
ECHO BEACH –
Martha and the Muffins Pop perfection.
(LET ME BE YOUR)
DIRTY FUCKING WHORE – Machine Gun Fellatio Gentle, wistful folk music for
the broken hearted. Of course it isn’t.
CUMBIA DEL DESIERTO
– Los Destellos One day I’m going to get me to South America, spend a
couple of months moving from town to town, just so I can drink local cocktails
and hear music like this all day.
SUMMER BREEZE –
Isley Brothers This is the kind of song that I close my eyes and I’m instantly
four pints into an afternoon session at a pub with a pool table and this song
on the jukebox.
TURN IT ON AGAIN
- Genesis What a fucking tune.
CRAZY ABOUT
GIRLS – Dr. Feelgood I once fell briefly (20 mins or so) in love with a
Valleys barmaid from Estonia whose jukebox selection was this song followed by
The Man Whose Head Expanded by The Fall.
As ever, your love is taken as read. Thanks for putting up
with this shite. Tomorrow, normal service is resumed. Your disappointment is
taken as read, also. It’s that Ry Cooder’s birthday tomorrow….
