Salt and Soup
I was thinking
of building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One artist. One song.
Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is that day and then
nine other songs by nine different artists just because people like things to
be in tens.
The playlist
is here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4exU9MUJMWaouOgnu7zmSl?si=I5fqk7VpQX6aDGec7xvqsQ&pi=e-IfIWXc5GT56R
So, the idea was
that you might want to follow and share and either have the playlist yourself
or do your own or chat about it with me, you could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.
I’m on Twitter X
thing as @fourfoot
PUSH IT – Salt N
Pepa I hated this when it came out. Tru dat etc. Cos I was getting deep
into my cardigan/Bernard sumner haircut/indie is best vibe like a fucking CHILD.
And then Soulwax mixed it with the Stooges No Fun and I went oh this is such a
good tune and then I listened to it on its own and it was good fun in its own
right. So, happy birthday Cheryl “Salt” James.
SEETHER – Veruca
Salt One Salt to another. Yeah American indie guitar girls ahoy etc! For
some reason this always reminds me of the much missed ITV Chart Show which I’m certain
never played this.
NO MEMORY –
Scarlet Fantastic. Just before the aforementioned cardigan etc stage came
the last days of totally in love with massive pop songs stage. And this reminds
me of being 15 and fucking lonely and withdrawn and listening to this on my
shit Walkman thing after I got my friend Inci to tape it off a Now compilation
because I was too broke to buy it.
HE VENIDO A
DECIRTE – Los Zafiros For once a Latin tinged song I didn’t get from
Fishguard Dave (posts passim) – I think this was in an episode of Breaking Bad.
Anyway, it’s got that late fifties crooner slash melodramatic rnb rock and roll
thing going on and I’m a sucker for that stuff.
CHASE THE DEVIL –
Max Romeo AKA The one The Prodigy sampled for Out of Space.
DERKA BLUES –
The Growlers. Hate the band name. Love the song.
SUNDAY MORNING –
Flo Morrissey and Matthew White A twee and charming cover of the Velvet Underground’s
most twee and charming song.
HEAVY SOUP –
Cornershop Cornershop getting their sweet soul on. This always reminds me
of the summer of 2002. It was a happy and fun summer for me. I got engaged to
my then quite new and hot girlfriend, I did a bit of travelling, I had a decent
job, prospects and a sweet social life too. I didn’t even mind when David
Seaman allowed himself to fuck up at work in the World Cup because this song
was continually on my Discman.
GLAMOUR GIRL –
Chicks on Speed Sometimes it really is all about the band name.
LAKE SHORE DRIVE
– Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah. I suspect this song is about a certain
prohibited chemical substance and I’m not talking asbestos.
As ever, your love is taken as read. Thanks for putting up
with this shite. Tomorrow, normal service is resumed. Your disappointment is
taken as read, also. It’s that Perry Farrell’s birthday tomorrow. Well, turn up
and find out..
