Solomon, Swamp and Switchblade

Welcome to the latest instalment of the badly titled Everyone Has Got one Good Song blog thing. Day 78!

I was thinking of building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One artist. One song. Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is that day and then nine other songs by nine different artists just because people like things to be in tens.

The playlist is here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4exU9MUJMWaouOgnu7zmSl?si=I5fqk7VpQX6aDGec7xvqsQ&pi=e-IfIWXc5GT56R

So, the idea was that you might want to follow and share and either have the playlist yourself or do your own or chat about it with me, you could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.

I’m on Twitter X thing as @fourfoot

HOME IN YOUR HEART – Solomon Burke. Sometimes you just need a massive hefty old slice of RnB cake. This reminds me that this song features in the soundtrack to quite fun comedy thriller Red which stars Mary-Louise Parker who I FUCKING ADORE quite frankly.

SINCE YESTERDAY – Strawberry Switchblade I dedicate this particular selection to my friend Rhona who I think I pissed off and I should man up and say sorry and hello really.

TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF YOUR MIND – Swamp Dogg I used to put this on in the offlicense where I worked as a kind of shop clearer. It’s not horrible music by any means but it did tend to hurry the decisive process for our alcohol-bothering clientele.

SUFFERING - Satchel. It’s like Meat Loaf for the cool kids.

SLEEP NOW IN THE FIRE – Rage Against the Machine I liked the politics but the music largely did my head in. At least they were committed to their causes. This is a banger.

TRANSFUSION – Nervous Norvus There just aren’t enough songs sung from the perspective of a dangerous driver who has just possibly fatally injured themselves.

JESUS CAME TO MY BIRTHDAY – Middle East  A band name like that with a song titled like that. Course its great.

WINGS – Mica Levi Mica Levi is a disruptive genius.

DUB WILL TEAR US APART – Jah Division This blog’s second reggae-tinged cover of Joy Division’s most famous song.

ROBOTIC SAMBA PROGRAM – Fonda 500. The greatest band you’ve never heard of – I’ve been plugging their shit for 20 plus years and still they have less than 300 monthly listens on Spotify. Had a pint with them once. Lovely people.

As ever, your love is taken as read. Thanks for putting up with this shite. Tomorrow, normal service is resumed. Your disappointment is taken as read, also. It’s that Jorge Ben Jor birthday tomorrow….
