Song From Guy

Welcome to the latest instalment of the badly titled Everyone Has Got one Good Song blog thing. Days 63!

I was thinking of building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One artist. One song. Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is that day and then nine other songs by nine different artists just because people like things to be in tens.

The playlist is here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4exU9MUJMWaouOgnu7zmSl?si=I5fqk7VpQX6aDGec7xvqsQ&pi=e-IfIWXc5GT56R

So, the idea was that you might want to follow and share and either have the playlist yourself or do your own or chat about it with me, you could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.

I’m on Twitter X thing as @fourfoot

It is dedicated to birthday boy Guy Garvey. Honestly, Elbow should be forced to spend several months in prison for that godawful “A Day Like This”, even though it isn’t their fault it’s the singalong anthem for the worst kind of Glasto/2012/Paddington middle class wanker. It’s Sweet Caroline for people who get all misty eyed at the mention of Mo Salah. But the song I’ve chosen is just fucking beautiful. So happy birthday Guy.

ELBOW – Loneliness of the Tower Crane Driver.

MATTHEW E WHITE - Brazos If you like Lambchop, Randy Newman, Mercury Rev then I think you’ll either a) already know this or b) are about to message me with thank you shaped garlands of praise for leading you to it. It’s spiritual, moving, hopeful and epic.

KACIMI – Le Ballon Songe – It’s in French, I don’t know what they’re singing about but it’s probably about getting strung out on super cool Paris drugs with Audrey Tautou in the back of a taxi to breakfast at the graveside of Alain Delon. It’s got that kind of JAMC yearning to it, y’know?

FANNY – Hey Bulldog Amazing Beatles cover. Elis James was banging on about it on Twitter and he’s right to do so.

KACY& CLAYTON - Springtime of the Year Lovely folk stuff from Saskatechawan and all of their albums are worth “checking out” as the DJs used to say when they weren’t turning a blind eye to shenanigans backstage at Radio 1 Roadshows in Tenby.

EWAN CRUICKSHANKS – Ross Kemp on Gangs You know me, I like a curio and this is definitely that. Also, the surname reminds me of Paul Rust’s character in Netflix romcom sitcom Love which you should watch because it’s funny and sweet.

PEPE DELUXE – A Night and a Day Criminally underrated tune from criminally underrated band – yeah you know the one they did from that Levi’s advert but this is like Fatboy Slim doing a Bond theme for the psychedelic crowd.

YAZOO - Situation Because Vince Clarke is a genius.

FISH ASSASSIN – Shovels and Rope Vocals, percussion. Sometimes it’s all you need. This is a play loud kinda song.

AMY WINEHOUSE – Back In Black I don’t think I can ever forgive the scum element of the press for what they did to poor Amy. What a force of nature, what a phenomenal, timeless fucking talent.

As ever, your love is taken as read. Thanks for putting up with this shite. Tomorrow, normal service is resumed. Your disappointment is taken as read, also. It’s that Arthur Lee’s birthday tomorrow….
