A Rich Tea Joke

Welcome to the latest instalment of the badly titled Everyone Has Got one Good Song blog thing. Day 91!

I was thinking of building the ultimate playlist with one simple rule. One artist. One song. Each day will feature a song by an artist whose birthday is that day and then nine other songs by nine different artists just because people like things to be in tens.

The playlist is here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4exU9MUJMWaouOgnu7zmSl?si=I5fqk7VpQX6aDGec7xvqsQ&pi=e-IfIWXc5GT56R

So, the idea was that you might want to follow and share and either have the playlist yourself or do your own or chat about it with me, you could use the hashtag #EHGOGS.

I’m on Twitter X thing as @fourfoot

THE CALVARY CROSS – Richard and Linda Thompson After yesteday’s 900 word rant about Marvin Gaye, I’ll keep things short. I keep meaning to explore Rich T (geddit)’s back catalogue because I love this song.

BEDSITTER (Extended version) – Soft Cell Hard as it is to think of Marc Almond without thinking of the phrase “you dirty bollocks” (thanks Twitter), he shall be remembered as a wonderful songwriter and this is just gloriously melancholic.

POPPY SEED (Boards of Canada mix) – Slag Boom Van Loon Few things are as exciting to me as a Boards of Canada mix and this reworking of SBVL’s Aphex-ish banger is a deep joy.

CAROL – The Peep Tempel Never been to Australia. But I need to go. I’m told Melbourne in particular is chock a block with bands like this. This is divorce-rock but FUCKING GREAT

GOTTA GET UP – Harry Nilsson Yeah I heard it on Russian Doll.

I TOLD HER ON ALDERAAN – Neon Neon Gruff Rhys is a genius even if he is too cool for his own good. Honestly.

SISTER- BROTHER – F.J McMahon Wondering if the title inspired The Fall’s Mother-Sister in 1978. Possible, though this is nothing like that particular tune.

WIDE OPEN SPACE – Mansun Didn’t he turn out to be a wrongun? Anyway, I thought they were bang average but this is pretty good for late-period Britpop if such a thing exists.

NICE WEATHER FOR DUCKS – Lemon Jelly In the early days of downloading for one’s iPod I bought tons of magazines telling me which tracks to add each week and this was one of my first. Cheerful, silly, playful electronic pop.

BENEATH THE ROSE – Micah P Hinson I like this though I can never make up my mind who it reminds me of….

As ever, your love/disgust/apathy is taken as read. Thanks for putting up with this shite. Your disappointment is taken as read, also. It’s that nice Muddy Waters birthday tomorrow.
